A Lot Is Happening
Books, programs, shows, retreats, kids, deadlines — and somehow, it’s all still fun.

🎪January Update: Welcome to the Circus
The year of the horse is already taking me on a wild ride. I’m juggling so many balls right now, the only way to catch me is front row at a circus.
Here’s what’s currently in motion:
I have my eighth book coming out in June—Play It Again, my ode to community theater and gay kissing (more on that below). I’m launching two new year-long novel writing programs, My Novel Year. Generation Women, my multi-generational storytelling series, continues to sell out Joe’s Pub (bragging!), and our next Hudson Valley Writers’ Retreat is on sale now for March. We just launched Spotlight, a six-week storytelling intensive for professionals. I’m working with 831 Stories as a freelance editor —catch me at The Ripped Bodice on February 3rd for the launch party of my first novella with them, Rooting Interest, by Cat Disabato. I’m also hosting 831’s Romance Book Club, discussing The Pairing by Casey McQuiston and Grape Juice by Eliza Dumais, at McNally Jackson on Feb 12th. I’m working as a private coach and editor for select writers. Oh, and I’m the parent of two small kids with a very understanding wife!
It’s — a lot. I’ve always enjoyed having a lot going on, but even for me, my plate is very full. If I owe you an email, I’m sorry but also, hi, welcome to my brain!
Weekend Survival Mode
Parents of small children know that winter weekends without childcare feel approximately seven hundred years long. Our solution? Art galleries.
Families in New York can visit museums for free using the Cool Culture card (parents, get at it). We caught the excellent Sixties Surreal exhibition at the Whitney, and last weekend, hit up The Met. There’s an awesome kid-friendly area on the ground floor where my wife and I took turns handling the smalls while each of us wandered through the hallowed halls. My fave discovery was a wonderful Afrofuturist Period room, where thrillingly, I accidentally made extended eye contact with Queer Eye’s Jeremiah Brent. (We did not speak but I feel confident we are now soul connected.)
First Pass Pages & Bittersweet Goodbyes
I’m currently working on first pass pages for Play It Again, which is when you get a PDF of the book laid out like an actual book for one final pass to catch errant typos. It’s so fun to revisit my latest dream world, but also bittersweet because first pass pages are typically the last time I read my own work. I’ll be celebrating this sexy lil story with a Gen Women show at Joe’s Pub on pub day, June 16th. Save the date!
How Do You Do It All?
People often ask me how I do it all, and I never know what to say because I don’t actually know. I get excited by things, I put them in motion, and then it’s too late to stop. That’s it, that’s the secret! I also try to limit procrastination, self-doubt, and decision paralysis because who has the time?!
I will say that the way I’m unwinding at the end of the day is through cheese, wine, and rewatching The West Wing, one of my ultimate comfort shows. I think if I could live in any TV show, it would be a high-status character in an early season. There’s something so deeply comforting about this show, and in this crazy, distressing period of history, it feels so warm and safe to dream of a better world.
Let’s keep dreaming.
📚This is the year you write your novel
Let’s finish that book, together 🤝
Seventeen years ago, I arrived in New York City with two enormous suitcases, and an even bigger dream of being a writer.
Since then, I’ve published eight novels with Big Five publishers across genres—young adult, women’s fiction, romance. My path to publishing was more like a rickety, treacherous obstacle course with hidden trap doors and surprise snakes.
Everything I’ve learned—about craft, reader expectations, building an author platform, working with agents and editors, and fulfilling the dream of being a novelist in New York City—I’ve poured into My Novel Year.
Applications close this Monday, January 19th for both tracks: The Draft (finish your first draft) and The Revision (polish your completed manuscript).
This is a high-touch program for serious writers ready to make real progress on their novel. Here’s what you get:
A full developmental edit from me to serve as your roadmap
Live pitch sessions with my literary agent (Allison Hunter, founding partner of Trellis Literary) AND my acquiring editor (Emma Caruso at Penguin Random House)
12 monthly group workshops with a small cohort (max 5 writers)
12 one-on-one private sessions with me
First Pages Bootcamp and Q&As with published authors throughout the year
Marketing Masterclass to understand the business side of publishing and how to position your work
The accountability, motivation, craft support, and industry access you’ve been craving
Cohorts begin February-March at founding member pricing.

I look forward to helping you reach your wildest publishing dreams!
⚡Find your story. Lead with it.
🎤 New Thing: Spotlight
I’m launching something for a different kind of writer—the professionals, leaders, and founders who need to communicate with clarity and confidence but don’t know how to get there.
Spotlight is a six-week storytelling intensive that takes you from “I think I have a story” to performing it live on stage in New York City—complete with professional video, photos, and a celebration dinner.
It’s designed for executives preparing keynotes, founders who need to own their story, and anyone at a career inflection point who wants to lead with authenticity and impact.
The Spring 2026 cohort runs March 9 – April 12 (five Monday evening Zoom sessions + one private coaching call with me + live NYC showcase on April 12).
Applications close January 31st. Inaugural cohort pricing starts at $1,500 (companies often reimburse through L&D budgets—we provide all documentation).
If you’re a professional who’s been asked to speak more—or you know one—this might be exactly what’s needed.

🤤Current Obsessions 👀
This month’s curated list of faves, finds, and future buys…
I am absolutely living for the collective Heated Rivalry psychosis we are all currently living through. I love the way that this very gay, very sexy romance has the entire world in a chokehold — it’s just extremely hilarious to see so many people fall ass backwards into a teenage level of fandom. Obviously I love the show, and I do now identify as a gay man who plays hockey, thank you for asking.
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect leather bucket bag, and reader, I found it! It’s by Mansur Gavriel, very chic and well made, retails for about $700, but my wife bought it on The RealReal for about $150. Here’s another one similarly priced!
My brother from another mother, Dan Fox, has started hosting weekly phone-free nights in his shared brownstone in Fort Greene. I’ve attended two so far, and they are truly the highlight of my week. It feels revelatory to sit with other adults, all of whom are quietly journaling, writing, crocheting, making art, reading, and just being connected and peaceful, without phones. I’m all about community building this year, and these kind of nights show me you can always start small to have an impact. I’ll post some pix below. Love you, Dan!
There are so many great books coming out this year. One I’m particularly excited about is Switzy by Emma Klein, author of The Girls and The Guest, two books I really loved. It’s pitched as a “mesmerizing portrait of an aging man’s last pilgrimage”. Honestly, I’d read Emma’s grocery list. She’s such a talented writer and I can’t wait to go wherever she wants to take me with this book.
I like to take care of my skin through a simple 11-step routine I do twice daily, and while I am always evangelical about serums and moisture-rich moisturizers and retinol, etc., if you’ve ever thought my skin looks good, I really think it’s because of this foundation by Kosas. I’m not particularly loyal to many brands but this is my forever foundation.
⭐️That’s it from me! ⭐️
If you liked this, let me know and chat with me in the comments — I love hearing from you.

Really loved this! Amidst the chaos comes amazing new things and friends! Bookmarking My Novel Year for next year so I can block the time and budget -- amazing program offering.
I love the way your mind works. Maybe because we’re kindred spirits. Keep up the amazing fun and work on all fronts - those of us that relate feel so soothed by knowing we’re all trying to juggle work, life, kids, art, and feeling like a fully developed human being with friends and a brain that can deliver coherent perspective. Love it! Keep shining, G💜💜💜
